SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM

Racquet Up’s general out-of-school program supports students in 5th-12th grade. It launches each September and runs until early June. Students attend three weekly practices in the after school hours, on their designated days, where their time is split between academic and education support and fitness and squash training. Throughout the course of the year, students also complete community service projects, explore college and career opportunities, attend cultural outings, travel, and participate in character-building activities.

This is not a drop in activity, it is a program that requires commitment from students and their families. After 13 years of working with Detroit youth, Racquet Up has demonstrated the impact that long-term, holistic support can have on students finding their path to post-secondary success. 100% of the students to complete the program have graduated from high school and gained access to college. Most have gone to college, some have been supported to launch a career or a vocational training program.

“Before I joined Racquet Up, my grades were well below average, but after I enrolled they made a significant jump. Racquet Up is more than just a squash and academic program. It’s a life-long experience with memories that will last forever. I wouldn’t be a graduate from this school if not for Racquet Up.”
