Students enjoy cultural and community highlights in ‘remix week’
Remix Week provides a unique opportunity for fun workshops to take place. These sessions engage students about a number of interests, including dance, cosmetology, science, squash, and arts/crafts. This past Remix Week, Racquet Up staff and volunteers shared unique talents with students as they hosted a wide range of workshops covering natural hair care, squash video analysis, science experiments, and nail design.
Every year, all of our students engage in community service as an integral part of the Racquet Up experience. On Wednesday, February 1, high school students learned about the current movement for food justice and sovereignty in Detroit. Repair the World in Southwest Detroit hosted students as they sorted a huge assortment of seeds.
To conclude a fun-packed, meaningful Remix Week, 5th, 6th and 7th graders enjoyed a field day of science in Metro-Detroit. Our students from MacDowell Preparatory Academy toured the hands-on Michigan Science Center in Midtown Detroit, while others visited the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills. Students enthusiastically learned about combustion, mechanics, geology, physics, and even more science topics.
