Last weekend, Racquet Up Detroit students had the opportunity to watch and play with professional squash players. For many, it was a first visit to the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC). For others, it was the next step in a continued series of exposures to the world of professional squash.
On Friday, May 4, Racquet Up players watched professionals in the 2012 PST (Pro Squash Tour) World Championship played at the Detroit Athletic Club. We took a small group to watch one match. One match, right? Just a quick visit on Friday evening, and head home for the day. Easy, right?
With incredible squash, hands-on interaction with pros, numerous signatures, and donated clothing, Racquet Up students didn’t want to go home. We passed around the phones, extended our evening, and didn’t leave for almost three full matches. Our budding players soaked up squash games and personal interaction that characterized the tournament.

Woah, is that David Palmer between Jerreon and Elexia? Are those autographed squash balls?

I have a feeling the conversation went something like this. "Can I have a racquet? Or a squash ball? Or a wrist band?"
On Saturday, Racquet Up Detroit was once again a presence at the tournament. This time, students jumped on court and hit with the pros. For our players just picking up the game, the exposure and instruction will be remembered for years. Thanks to the Detroit Athletic Club for hosting us and the wonderful players for providing autographs, squash gear, and insightful instruction.
