
Derek Aguirre, Executive Director
Derek is a native of Michigan with seven years of experience as a youth development professional. He graduated from the University of Michigan where he studied history and English, and became deeply engaged in urban issues and community service in Detroit. He moved to Boston after graduation to work for SquashBusters, the first-ever after-school program to use the sport of squash, in combination with academic support, community service, and mentoring to make a difference in the lives of urban public school students. After six years with SquashBusters, Derek attended Harvard Business School, where he focused on non-profit management and earned his MBA.

Patrick Morris, Academic Coordinator and Business Manager
Patrick is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he studied public policy and economics. In Ann Arbor, he spent time volunteering with the creative writing program 826michigan. As a participant in the University of Michigan’s Semester in Detroit program, Patrick explored Detroit and gained exposure to the non-profit field while interning at InsideOut Literary Arts Project. He currently leads Racquet Up’s literacy and academic programs, while also supporting the business operations of the organization. Patrick enjoys running marathons, visiting libraries, and playing outside.

Emma Head, Squash Program Assistant
Emma is originally from Manchester, United Kingdom. She has played the great game of squash since she was 11. After entering her first Under 14 tournament, she was hooked on competing and all that squash had to offer. Emma became Scottish and British champion at the Under 19 level and the youngest ever senior Scottish national champion. She went on to play on the international circuit and gained her highest world ranking of 30. She has over 40 caps for competing for Scotland in national and international events.
Once retiring from the international circuit, Emma began coaching and passing on her love for squash. She is married to Jon and has three kids: Georgie, Jessica, and Charlie. Emma and her family moved to the United States 7 years ago with her husband’s job. Her family loves being in the US. Emma is very excited and proud to be part of the Racquet Up Detroit family.
